“Women in the Arts” Exhibition in Honor of Women’s History Month at GO ART
Women in the Arts DocuExhibition, opening this March in the Batavia City Rotary Club Gallery at GO ART!. This year’s exhibition honors Women’s History Month and celebrates the creative leadership, innovation, and cultural impact of women shaping the arts across the GLOW region and beyond.
The theme for Women’s History Month 2026, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” calls on communities to recognize women not as “footnotes to history, but as its authors, builders, and steady hands on the compass when the winds shift”. As one of the region’s leading arts organizations, GO ART! embraces this charge by uplifting the stories and achievements of women whose artistic and administrative contributions continue to shape our cultural landscape.
This year’s exhibition features more than 15 women representing a wide spectrum of artistic disciplines and arts leadership roles, including visual art, dance, puppetry, acting, literature, arts administration, and board governance. Through documentary panels, artwork, and personal narratives, the exhibition highlights the ways regional women in the arts are influencing community identity, expanding access, and contributing to a sustainable creative future.
The public is invited to a special reception on Thursday, March 19, at 6 PM, featuring live music by Elise Kelly, Annie Wright, a brief puppet performance by Pilar McKay, and a roundtable conversation facilitated by one of Batavia’s professional female podcasters, Emily Carlson, whose podcast, Powered by Authenticity is in the top 25% for all podcasts on Spotify. This evening of celebration and dialogue will honor the women featured in the exhibition and invite the community to reflect on the essential role women play in shaping the arts.
