The Iron Rivals: How the Erie and Competitor Railroads Built Western New York As part of the Holland Land Office Museum’s Guest Speaker Series, join us on Wednesday, May 19, 2027, at 7:00 PM for an illustrated historical lecture presented by WNY railroad historian Tyler Heiman.

In “The Iron Rivals,” Tyler explores how competing rail lines—including the New York & Erie Railroad and rival central routes—fought for regional dominance and permanently reshaped the Western New York landscape. Attendees will learn how early railroad expansion connected isolated towns like Batavia to major national markets, fueled local industrial growth, and left behind a rich tangible history that can still be traced today.

The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.
