Interactive Event Connects Buffalo-Rochester Creative Corridor Through Democratic Art Experience
A groundbreaking new arts initiative is set to transform how communities engage with local artists. The People's Choice Showcase, debuting Tuesday, September 30th from 6-9 PM, places the power of art selection directly into the hands of community members through an innovative voting experience.
Unlike traditional gallery exhibitions where curators determine featured works, The People's Choice Showcase invites the public to discover, engage with, and vote for their favorite pieces from area artists. The top 20 community-selected works will earn coveted spots in a month-long exhibition at Eli Fish Gallery throughout October.
"We believe art should be accessible, interactive, and driven by genuine connection between artists and their community," said Brian Kemp, event organizer. "No gatekeepers. No barriers. Just incredible local talent meeting their neighbors face-to-face."
The initiative supports a broader mission to establish Batavia as Western New York's crossroads for creativity, connecting Buffalo, Rochester, and the region's diverse artistic voices through artist-driven showcases and authentic community participation.
Event highlights include:
- Live artist showcases with opportunities to meet creators and learn their stories
- Interactive voting system allowing community members to select gallery-worthy pieces
- Direct sales opportunities for participating artists
- Networking opportunities between artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts
- Refreshments and exclusive event merchandise for sale.
Participating artists, who register for just $25, receive featured placement in the online gallery, a 2025 Event T-Shirt, a complimentary beverage, prime showcase space, social media/online promotion and the chance to have their work featured on the walls of Eli Fish for the month of October. Registration closes September 23rd.
"This is democracy meets artistry," added Brian Kemp. "We're creating something that elevates our entire regional arts scene while giving community members a meaningful voice in supporting local creativity."
The People's Collective represents a new model for community-driven arts programming, emphasizing accessibility and genuine connection over traditional hierarchical gallery structures.
